The lighter, more accoustic dominant flavor probably has been the thing that has turned many fans off to this album, and thats a shame. It is a little less heavy than the first two albums, as the band tries to experiment a bit, bringing in a more rustic, accoustic/folk/country flavor to their music a lighter,folkier side which, it must be said, was always part of their style.just not as dominant, as on this album.Midnight Man is a great, mellow, folk-styled ballad. Walsh would soon walk away himself, replaced by Domenic Troiano, and later by Tommy Bolin, so THIRDS is the last waltz for the classic version of the James Gang, whose popularity would soon begin to decrease even as Walsh' own star continued to rise, on his own and then with the Eagles. First off, it has one of their best songs ever, in "Walk Away". This album is appropriately titled, as it is third best, of the first three studio albums that the Joe Walsh era version of the band put out.
